Today is Love Theatre Day, celebrating creativity and passion throughout the industry.

More than ever before, recognising people in theatre, whether they perform, control the lights, or even volunteer, is vastly important. This year has been damaging to performing arts, with the Coronavirus pandemic stopping all shows across the nation.

LOVEtheatre are encouraging those who love the arts to support locally by purchasing a ticket to watch a performance, once lockdown has ended. They also stated that socially distanced shows are going to be taking place next month. These shows consist of “Six, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, A Christmas Carol, [and] Adam Kay: Twas the Night Before Christmas.” So if you’re missing theatre productions, there isn’t much longer to wait until you can return!

Theatres across the nation have taken to social media to post about Love Theatre Day, spreading love and appreciation.

Staff from Shakespeare’s Globe put on Twitter “All the world's a stage

To everyone who calls theatre home, we're sending you all the Globe love, joy and laughter this #LoveTheatreDay.

Let's celebrate this wonderful industry and all the incredible beans who are part of it.”

And the Royal Exchange Theatre posted this on Twitter, “Today we celebrate the extraordinary people who keep theatre alive – communities, performers, audiences, directors, writers, designers, stage managers, theatre makers, volunteers, ambassadors, freelance workers, participants, FOH & so many more… #lovetheatreday

Whereas, others have posted video tributes to theatre productions, or photos of theatrical icons – such as William Shakespeare and David Garrick.

Theatre plays a large part in our culture and is a favourite to many; this Christmas will be different without the festive pantomimes uplifting spirits and spreading joy to families and friends across the nation.

Although we can’t visit theatres during this time, it is still vital to try and support them where you can – even if it’s by sharing a tweet celebrating Love Theatre Day, showing your love for all those involved.
