Local bands across South Yorkshire have suffered immensely during this global pandemic.

Gigs and upcoming shows are postponed until further notice or even worse, cancelled altogether. We spoke to a local band from Sheffield, the ‘twentyeighthclub’ to see how they have been coping as a band.

How did lockdown impact the band initially?

“Initially, along with many other bands we believe it challenged us to become more creative in the way we engage with our audience. Creating content that we may not have thought about before, however, the realising how effective it can be, for example out lockdown sessions that you can find on our socials. We owe a lot to the people who take their time to listen to our music. Lockdown had given us a chance to develop the community that we want to create.”

What has the band been working on throughout lockdown?

“we are constantly creating content and planning for the future of the band. We’re in the process of trying to pull everything together and should have some big announcements coming soon.”

How do you think this pandemic will impact small bands as a whole?

“We believe in what is already a challenging environment it will take a lot of time for small bands to bounce back. Without the resources, time and money available to already established artists it will seem like a daunting task for many. However, if it’s something that you really want, you’ll do everything possible to achieve it. Just enjoy what you’re doing and it will show.”

What do you have in store for after lockdown?

“we’ve been working really hard behind the scenes to adapt and better ourselves in the current environment. We are extremely proud of what we have achieved over the last year but feel we can give so much more. Hopefully all this ends soon and we can enjoy live music altogether once again.”
