There was outrage earlier this week after the BBC released an edited clip of a Panorama. During a speech in 2021 Donald Trump, President of the USA, made remarks about “walking down to the capital” and “cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women”, however the BBC released it onto their news platforms after editing different sections together, so it sounded as though he said, “and we’re going to fight like hell”.

The President swiftly responded by threatening to sue the BBC for $1 billion ( £792 million ) for defamation, unless there is a “full and fair retraction” and the president is compensated. This of course sparked interest and outrage within both the USA and UK.

The BBC has released a statement saying that they made an “error of judgement” and that they will "not be broadcast (it) again in this form on any BBC platforms". They have however said they “strongly disagree” that there is basis for a defamation case. Currently we are waiting to see how the President will respond to these claims.
