#WeMakeEvents – The Future for Live Music

It is not a secret that the live music industry has suffered greatly due to the impact of Coronavirus across the globe. The sector has been trying it’s hardest to try to get back on track by doing virtual and socially distanced events, along with communicating frequently with audiences about post-pones and cancellations, but nothing is set in stone with the constant uncertainty at the moment.

In light of this, the international movement WeMakeEvents was launched in an urgent attempt to secure support from the government to ensure the sector survives the pandemic. WeMakeEvents strives to raise awareness and money for those within the live entertainment sector who have suffered losses due to Covid-19. From major festivals and theatres to grassroots venues, the movement has brought thousands together to fight for the future of the live entertainment industry.

Whilst asking governments for support, WeMakeEvents has also set up a SurvivalTour, consisting of a bike tour across the UK to raise money. The ride takes place in Newcastle and will span over 1500km, carefully planned to pass by over 50 UK Venues and Festival sites. All proceeds raised for the bike ride will be donated straight to the charity, Backup, who strive to give aid to those in need within the Entertainment Technology Industry.

The movement itself has been extremely successful in bringing the industry together in their fight for support. Several artists have tweeted their support for the movement and in doing so, have raised even more awareness by bringing it to their audience’s attention.

Stockport’s indie pop band, Blossoms, tweeted “Today we are once again calling on the government to urgently support the live events sector which is in desperate need of financial aid...”, as well as Radiohead who also stated their support publically. “What we do onstage is only part of the equation of putting on a good show. Our crew are at the heart of making it happen for all of us, band and audience alike. They’re incredible and that’s why we’re supporting #WeMakeEvents and invite you to do so as well, if possible.”

The support for the movement is overwhelming and seeing so many people within the same sector come together to support the same cause is amazing, but without any support, the future of the live entertainment industry could be non-existent.
