Doors open to students at new Digital hub

The new Barnsley College Digital Innovation Hub welcomes first students; the new and improved campus offers a wide range of facilities. Such as, Apple technology, high-end gaming and media classrooms, networking lads and the latest motion capture technology

In addition, Interserve were awarded a £4 million contract to refurbish and install a 100% recyclable ceiling system throughout the new building.

After speaking to Jessica Lee Henderson who is the current program manager for the Digital Industries department at Barnsley College, it gave an insight into how the new and improved building will affect the students at Barnsley College.
She says “From the buildings infrastructure to the technology in the classrooms, this building will mean our learners have an industry standard experience. We have invested in high spec computers with state of the art software, as well as specialist virtual studios with motion capture suits, virtual reality, and Oculus headsets. The digital team has been inspired by the building; we want to make sure the curriculum that we teach enables learners to progress onto higher education or employment feeling confident that we are the leaders of digital provision.”
In summary, the new Barnsley College Digital Innovation Hub will encourage and inspire many students to create amazing pieces of digital content throughout their time at Barnsley College, ensuring they are well prepared for entering the creative and digital industries.
