Barnsley celebrates Black history month

This October Barnsley are going to be celebrating black history month which takes place each year to celebrate black people from all backgrounds helping to shape British history.
Black history month first started in the US in 1976 then was celebrated in the UK in 1987. It was hosted in London as part of the African Jubilee year, this celebration has carried on across the UK.

This event invites people from all backgrounds to share who they are proud to be as this years these is ‘Proud to be’. This year it is planned to be a big festival as its an opportunity to inspire and share pride with other people in different heritages and cultural traits.
The venues in which black history month will be hosted in Barnsley are; Barnsley Library where there will be a selection of books from black authors, Barnsley museum where blogs about inspirational contributions to black history will be shared. More event venues are going to be added soon.
