Barnsley’s new Youth Centre

Barnsley’s brand new youth centre, Base 71 is just a few months away from opening now. The 9.2 million pound project has been under construction since the May of 2024, and is scheduled to open sometime in January 26. But just what is Base 71.

The building will include facilities for over 20 different activities including a climbing wall, music suite, a boxing and martial arts room, as well as an art project room and a kitchen for people to learn.

The company that constructed the building, Onside, have they want to create a “safe and aspirational” place for young people. Membership for the centre will only cost £5 annually for youths to go and experience new opportunities.
