After his initial win two months ago, today Joe Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States. After a long campaign and an overwhelming result in voters, Biden is only just beginning as he prepares to take on the role as President amongst the coronavirus pandemic. So, what does this mean for America and what can they expect from day one under the Biden Administration?

Top of the priority list for the President-elect is the current pandemic. With over 400,000 deaths in the U.S it is essential that action is taken immediately, and that is exactly what Joe Biden has promised the country as he moves to set his covid strategy in action. Not only has Joe Biden promised to crack down on social distancing and mask mandating, but he has also pledged to work closely with state governors on the current covid crisis, as well as striving for 100 million vaccinations in under 100 days.
In terms of the economy, Biden has pledged to end the Trump tax cuts and intends to raise taxes for the wealthiest corporations to help small businesses. In addition, a $1.9tn stimulus plan for the economy was unveiled by the Biden administration last week, meaning that payments of $1.4k to all Americans could be seen if the legislation passed congress.
As well as working to relieve America of the tragedy it has seen over the course of this pandemic, Joe Biden has pledged to re-enter the paris climate change agreement, revoke the travel ban put in place initially to stop immagrants from mostly Muslim populated countries from entering America, as well as Criminal justice reforms and LGBTQ+ protection.
It seems as though there is a lot of change to come from America, and hopefully we can begin to see relief from the Covid pandemic as the world begins to heal, as well as a new presidency on the horizon.
