In the early hours of Tuesday Morning, the SpaceX vessel carrying four astronauts docked with the International Space Station after 27 hours of travelling.

The spacecraft launched by Elon Musk’s SpaceX program is the first privately built space vessel to be crewed by a NASA team and will remain docked at the ISS until April of 2021 when a replacement SpaceX craft will be sent up with a replacement team, also.

Three American and one Japanese astronauts, Commander Mike Hopkins, Victor Glover, Shannon Walker and Soichi Noguchi, were the chosen four to board the vessel nicknamed ‘Resilliance’. When ISS astronaut, Kate Rubins, first made radio contact with the craft, she said “Oh what a good voice to hear,” upon hearing Commander Mike Hopkins speak.

This mission is extremely historical for several reasons and will be one to remember for centuries to come. Not only is the privately built space craft a monumental step forward, but Astronaut Victor Glover is also the first black astronaut to spend an extended period of time on the ISS, along with it being his first visit to the space station altogether.
