Petrol Shortage in the UK

Due to the lack of lorry drivers in the uk people are panic buying petrol but Boris Johnson is prioritising petrol for NHS workers.

Long ques have been forming in petrol stations all across the UK causing traffic issues on main roads as people are desperate to fill up their car with either diesel or petrol.

As there are so many people desperate for petrol the government are bringing the army in so that they can transport fuel to garages. At the minute 150 members of the army are going to start driving lorry’s and transporting the fuel but they are going to need some training leading up to this.

The government are also offering 5,000 visas to foreign fuel tank and food lorry drivers in the run up to Christmas as the demand for food and fuel is going to be higher in the upcoming months.

As well as this plan the process for HGV lorry drivers is going to be sped up so that in a few weeks there should be a lot more lorry drivers on the road transporting things like food and fuel. Letters have been sent out to people to try and encourage them to come back into the industry while also having plans to train 4,000 more people.
