Home Secretary Priti Patel has requested that police forces to update them on the number of women reporting cases of them being spiked by needles in nightclubs.

Over 100,000 people have signed a petition that calls for compulsory searches after the number of numbers were shown on how many women had been reporting being spiked by needles. A student who believes they too were a victim of being spiked in this manner while in a nightclub in Nottingham says that she felt “vulnerable” and “violated”. Groups from more than 30 universities around the uk have joined together on an online campaign calling for a boycott of all nightclubs due to this issue. Most of the campaigners say they are seeking for “tangible” changes to make all night time based venues are safer from this issue and hopefully the ability to being spiked all together not just by it being by a needle.

Sarah buckle, a university student suddenly became I’ll while on a night out in Nottingham on the 28th September. She describes how one moment she was normal the next she was unable to say words properly if at all and she could barely stand for herself. The next morning she awoke to find herself in the hospital with a small pin prick on her hand which she later stated bruises and throbbed. "To be in hospital for 10 hours, and to have no recollection of anything for that long, is absolutely crazy,” she said. "I'm confused by why this is going on, it's terrifying. You can cover your drinks but how are you going to stop someone stabbing you?" Nottinghamshire police confirmed it was looking into reports of people being “spiked physically”.

The call for a boycott against all nightclubs across the entire uk call for a girls night in, encouraging people to stay and do other activities than going to nightclubs and putting people in the scenario where the possibility of being spiked is far higher for that person. Campaigners state that they want to see covers handed out for drinks, any drinks left unattended to be thrown out no matter how long it was for along with increased surveillance and safe zones for people that could be spiked.
