After exiting their month long firebreak lockdown, Wales have made the executive decision to cancel all exams due to take place in 2021.

Despite the fact that schools are remaining open over the course of the second lockdown, students and teachers across the UK are still worried about the situation regarding exams. This stems from the amount of times missed due to the first lockdown, setting the majority of students 3 months behind education wise.

This has sparked several fears amongst students who have their final exams approaching in the coming months and with the uncertainty that surrounded exams this year, who knows what could happen this time around. With thousands of student’s futures on the line, the demand for the government to make their decision on the matter has never been more urgent.

However, in Wales, where they have just exited a month long firebreak lockdown, the executive decision has been made to cancel all the exams due to take place in 2021. Instead, the exams will be taken in the classroom and marked, however it is clear the amount of pressure and stress put on students will be significantly lowered.

This news has been greatly received from students across Wales, though it still leaves a few questions to be answered and increases worry amongst students across the rest of the UK. Students, whilst happy that the same amount of pressure will not be weighing on them, are now worried about how these new adaptions will affect their future. The education minister has reassured student’s worries by saying universities and colleges will be familiar with the different qualification, though the change itself is easily unnerving.

These changes have made other students across the country hopeful for the state of exams next year; however, these concerns are understandable after the worries that students were left with after this year. Education has been largely impacted by Covid over the course of this year and changes need to be made to ensure that students are still getting the education they deserve whilst also remaining safe and protected from the virus.
