Another action-packed week of sports has flown by, here are results and reviews from the week.
It was Yorkshire vs Lancashire, as the Blades made the trip to Blackburn – a strong side at home so far this season. Sheffield United started well making it hard for Blackburn to make any threat. Harrison Burrows blasted the blades ahead to make it 0-1 – his first for the club. The game was very one sided, with shots from Moore, Hamer and Burrows all close to increasing the score line. Substitute Tyrese Campbell cemented the win, making it two goals in two for the Blades striker. A huge three points for the Sheffield United’s campaign.
Sheffield Wednesday were at home to Watford and looked to continue their run of form. Watford were off the mark first, when in the 29th minute right-back Porteous scored from close range. The Owls however managed to level it up going into half time – by of course Micheal Smith. It was all to play for in the second half, at least that what we thought. Two penalties in the space of six minutes was all it took for Watford to go ahead by not one but two goals. It was then a game of damage control for the Owls – this plan did not work. 2-6 at full time, a large defeat for a Wednesday side with a steel city around the corner.
For the rest of South Yorkshire, it was FA cup duty. Rotherham were at home to League Two side Cheltenham Town. A brace from Joe Colwill was all it took for Cheltenham to go ahead in the 36th minute, however it didn’t take long for Steve Evans’ side to come with an equaliser in the 37th. Cheltenham’s lead was then restored by Joel Colwill again, who opened the game up for The Robbins to score a third. The game ended Rotherham 1, Cheltenham 3.
Barnsley were up against top of League 2, Port Vale who have been in great form all season. The Tykes started of the better team with a goal from Roberts in the 17th minute. Vale levelled not long after, with a strong finish from Ronan Curtis. Barnsley retook the lead in the second half, when Keillor-Dun placed the ball into the back of the net. It wasn’t until the 82nd when the win was sealed. Substitute Phillips, previously out on injury, made his mark by converting from the penalty spot, putting Barnsley through to the 2nd round.
Finally, Doncaster Rovers were away at Barrow, a side they had recently played in the League. It was only one goal that would separate both teams at full time. That goal being scored by West Ham loanee Patrick Kelly – putting Doncaster ahead late in the 83rd minute. A repeat result from earlier in the season, helping Rovers reach the second round of the FA cup.

It was an eventful weekend in Formula One – that’s aside from the fact it was a sprint weekend. Oscar Piastri was on pole for the sprint race, but in the lateral moments of the already short race, was asked to swap positions with Lando Norris to help the championship fight. Qualifying was meant to be on the Saturday but was pushed to the early morning on Sunday, after an outpour of rain made the track unsafe. Qualifying on Sunday was a mess, with 5 red flags for heavy crashes involving Colapinto, Albon, Sainz, Stroll and Alonso. The timing of Strolls red flag meant max Verstappen could not complete a lap leaving him outside of the top ten. This gave Lando the perfect opportunity to take pole and that he did. With the race start only being a few hours later, it was all hands-on deck to make sure drivers and their cars were ready for another wet race. Russell beat Norris on the starting line, and the two appeared to be leaving the rest of the pack behind. This was until a badly timed safety car meant that George and Lando had boxed for new tires but when the VSC was ending. Ocon, Verstappen and Gasly were able to take the lead of the race, and it wasn’t long until max managed to overtake Esteban to reach first place. Max went home with 25points, making the gap to Norris even bigger.

That’s it for the week’s sports!
