Romelu Lukaku announced yesterday that during the game against Denmark on Thursday evening in the tenth minute of the game as a mark of respect for the Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen who suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening game of the tournament against Finland.
The mark of respect will fit in nicely with the amazing gestures that many footballers across the world have made since Eriksen’s horrific incident. This includes the gesture made by Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku during his goal celebration against Russia, “Christian, I love you, I love you”, was the message.
There were also many other footballers that displayed their support for Eriksen on the biggest stage, such as Ashraf Hakimi and Heung Min Son, both holding up the numbers 2 and 3 to represent Eriksen’s squad number at Inter Milan. As well as the t-shirts worn by the Finnish team during their warmup, prior to their game against Russia last night.
The second game for both sides will be a game that the Danes could really do with a result from, as Belgium will be looking to extend their impressive start following a 3-0 win on their tournament opener. Meanwhile Denmark will be looking to pick up their first points of the Euros following their opening loss, in a game that will, rightfully, not be remember for the result.
The gesture that will be made by the Belgian team is an incredible gesture that should be remembered as one of the most respectful moments of the Euros, showing that everyone is with Christian, and everyone is wishing him well.
