Bennett to Shrewsbury

The 32 year old winger / full back has left Blackburn Rovers as a free agent, joining Shrewsbury on a free transfer.
The ex-premier league player has been heavily linked with the Shrews for quite some time. However, when the Lancashire club announced their retained list, it was made clear that there were ongoing contract negotiations between the club and Bennett agent / himself.
Bennett joined Rovers in the 2015-16 season and spent 6 seasons at the club altogether. He joined the club from Brighton and Hove Albion and went on to make over 182 appearances for the one Premier League champions. Scoring 9 goals in his time at Ewood, playing in a variety of positions but mostly at Right back or Right wing.
During his first two seasons at the club he was very in and out of the side but, following the clubs relegation in the 2017 he became a regular in the clubs League One season. Keeping his place in the side for several seasons after the clubs return to the Championship at the first time of asking.
Bennett was actually club captain for the final two seasons of his Ewood stint, showing his exceptional leadership skills both on and off the pitch during his time with Rovers. Leaving some fans upset, but understanding the decision to let him leave the club.
He has signed an initial 1 year deal with the Shropshire side, and will no doubt be hoping to extend his stay at the club beyond the single season. It has been reported that the Shrews are also interested in current free agent Harry Chapman, who spent the last season on loan with the club from Blackburn. however, Chapman has been offered a new deal at Ewood Park, but is yet to agree terms regarding extending his stay with the Championship side.
