Covid-19 cases are rapidly increasing, almost doubling every 7 days so there could be 50 thousand cases my mid-October. Certain age groups are being affected more by the virus than others.

Chris Whittie states that the 20-29 age group have had the highest increase of covid-19 cases and the age group with the lowest cases is the 10 and bellow age group, which is due to them having a higher immune system.  He also states that as there is a rising number of cases it will also mean that there will be an increase in hospitalised number which will then lead onto an increased number in deaths so it’s just a vicious domino effect as one thing leads onto another but it has a bigger impact.

Sir Patrick Vallance claims that there are four main ways to try and stop the coronavirus from spreading and killing more people every day. These ways are:

  • Reducing the individual risk

  • Self-isolation when you have a symptom or you have been to another country

  • Break unnecessary links between households

  • Investing in vaccines

He says that we must take all of these into account because is the country does have to go back into lockdown then there will be a lot of pressure on the NHS just like there was before and they will have to spend more time on covid patients than other patients that doesn’t have an illness which is linked to the virus.

Scientist are working towards finding a vaccine, Sir Patrick Vallance is hoping that this vaccine will be available to the public by the start of 2021. Every day researchers are making a bit more progress on developing a vaccine as they a4re discovering numerous developments as well as potential treatments.
