Does Steve Bruce deserve respect?

Today Steve Bruce finally left a Newcastle job that was doomed from the start, he was quoted after his departure saying “I thought I could handle everything thrown at me but it has been very, very tough,” he said. “To never really be wanted, to feel that people wanted me to fail, to read people constantly saying I would fail, that I was useless, a fat waste of space, a stupid, tactically inept cabbage head or whatever.” Well this could of all been avoided if he hadn’t left a place that loved him for a place that hated him, in late 2018 Bruce was sacked by at the time championship club Aston Villa, he had been vilified by the villa fans which culminated in him being hit by a cabbage thrown from the stands, he had been dealing with the loss of his parents so he needed a break, he agreed to take over at Sheffield Wednesday but wanted a break first which the owls agreed to, a massive sign of respect and patience from the owls, when Bruce did take over he had an immediate impact as Wednesday turned from relegation fodder to playoff contenders under Bruce’s leadership, and the atmosphere at Hillsborough was sky high in the summer ready for a promotion challenge the following season under Bruce but a call from his boyhood club Newcastle changed everything, just two weeks before the season started Bruce jumped ship after all Wednesday did for him, and to top it off he was moving to a club that didn’t want him after they had just sacked Rafa Benitez, so can you really feel sorry for Bruce? I think after his personal problems you can because some of the abuse he was getting at Newcastle just isn’t warranted but it was his own choice to move from a club that loved him to a team that didn’t want him at all, he had everything he talked about in the quote at Hillsborough, he was wanted, but he chose to move and disrespect the owls as he did it.
