Yet again England Batting display was dreadful. There was a lot of optimism with England’s batting despite drawing the test match at Lords

Early signs were pretty good for the hosts as Burns and Sibley saw them through Lunch. The buzz from Edgbaston was promising though the nightmare began after the break. Sibley gone for 35, Crawley out for a 4-ball duck, Root out for 4 and Pope out for just 19.

By the time England were at 50 overs they were 169-5 and the optimism had died. Later Burns was out for 81 the only batter to give some runs in the top order. Bracey out for a duck. 175-6 and Olly stone walked and walked back into the sheds in an hours’ time having scored a valuable 20.

Next up was Mark Wood and with the help of Dan Lawrence they put 66 runs to the score giving England a score of 288-9 and Broad went for the 2nd duck in the innings and then came the man of the moment, England’s most capped player ever with 162, Jimmy Anderson who made 4 before being caught LBW by boult to end the innings.

Trent Boult took 4-85. Matt Henry claimed 3-78 in what was a very good Bowling display by the Kiwis.

New Zealand’s innings was dominated by Conway Taylor and Young scoring in the eighties. But apart from them three it wasn’t a brilliant display with the bat from New Zealand leading by 85 runs.

By the end of their innings New Zealand were 388 all out Devin Conway in just his 2nd test match looked very comfortable in the middle scoring 80 after scoring his 200 in the last match.

Broad was the clear standout bowler getting 4-48 along with 2 wickets from Mark Wood and tidy figures from Anderson and even a wicket from part time spinner Dan Lawrence with the last ball on day 2.

England’s 2nd innings was dreadful. Burns out 2nd ball Sibley out for 8 Crawley 17. Root out for 11. It was yet again a shocker start for England with the Top order scoring 58 runs. Then hero of the first innings Dan Lawrence came in and went after 2 balls.

Mark Wood the only batter to offer some resistance scoring 29. Broad out for 1 and Anderson 0 not out. Overall England put 122 on the board giving New Zealand 41 to chase which they did inside 11 overs.

This result gives more questions for England then answers with a Test series against India and then the Ashes in the Winter both looming .

Both series are already getting England fans nervous. The team have always said there is no need to panic but with this result how much longer can they hide behind the saying?
