With group F, kicking off with Portugal brushing Hungary aside late on, both France and Germany looked to pick up the 3 points to help them get out of what looks to be the most competitive group stage of the Euro 2020.

With the head-to-head and history of France vs Germany always making games great, this game looked to be a treat to be able to watch early in the competition.

The game got off to an extremely cagey start, with Mat Hummels scoring an own goal in the 20th minute after failing to divert a Lucas Hernandez cross anywhere other than into his own net.

The extremely anticipated match was an interesting game to watch, however both teams looked a little slow, and a little careless with the ball early on. Other than the own goal, chances seemed to come rare, leading to the game being a tight watch. Germany came closest through a Serge Gnabry volley which was watched over the bar, whilst France nearly saw a second through Karim Benzema, who struck the post.

France were unlucky in the end, with 2 goals both being ruled out for offside later in the game, a curling effort from Kylian Mbappe, as well as a close-range effort from Karim Benzema after a counterattack.

With the final score being 1-0 to France, and the difference being a Mats Hummels own goal, France are left level on points with Portugal, following their 3-0 win against Hungary. This meaning that Germany are going to need to show some desire and strength to perform well enough in the remaining group stage games to secure themselves a place in the knockout stages.
