Rotherham United have signed George Hirst on a season-long loan from Premier league side Leicester City. Hirst becomes the Millers seventh signing of the summer, joining a quickly strengthening side going into the Championship season.

Rotherham United have just come off the back of an opening day victory against fellow promoted side, Wycombe Wanderers. After Michael Ihekiwe scored a 92nd minute winner. A scrappy and dull game, which broke the record for the least amount of time the ball has been on the pitch during a Championship game.

The Millers will be hoping Hirst will bring goals to the squad as well as a bit of excitement. The powerful striker was formally at South Yorkshire rivals, Sheffield Wednesday, but he failed to make and impact and was subsequently released, the following season he signed for OH Leuven on a free transfer where he scored 3 goals in 22 appearances for the Belgian outfit, who apply their trade in the Belgian Pro League.

After a year abroad, Premier League side Leicester City picked him up where he still remains to this day. Now his parent club, Hirst has made 2 appearances for the Foxes making his debut against Tottenham Hotspur coming on as sub in the 83rd minute.

The Millers are hoping that Hirst is not the last  piece of business this window as they’ve also been linked with Newcastle midfielder Dan Barlaser who spent last season on loan at the New York City Stadium.
