Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips withdraws from the England squad due to calf strain
Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips has withdrawn from the England squad after picking up a slight knock in their win over Watford on Saturday.
Phillips who has become an essential player in Southgate’s squad picked up a calf strain on Saturday and will miss England’s world cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary and he has returned to thorp arch for treatment Leeds are hopeful he will be fit by the time Leeds take on Southampton at ST. Mary’s Stadium on the 16th October.
Phillips played an integral role for England in the Euros starting in every game and grabbing an assist in the 1-0 win over Croatia only Jordan Pickford played more minutes for England at the Euros meaning Phillips played more minutes than any other outfield player. Phillips has been irreplaceable since his euros campaign .
James ward-Prowse has been called up to replace Phillips for these qualifiers with Ward-Prowse adding more of an attacking threat than Phillips however he doesn’t fit Southgate’s system as well as Phillips.
