Man City fan fighting for his life after being viciously attacked at service station

A 63-year-old Manchester City supporter has been left fighting for his life in hospital after he was viciously attacked by a rival fan in Belgium.

The Man City fan who has been named by HLN as Guido was “left for dead” after he tried to retrieve his scarf from a Club Brugge fan at a service station in Drongen.

The incident took place following Manchester City’s 5-1 victory over Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday night when he was making his way home when he stopped at a service station.

He was approached by a rival supporter and had his scarf pulled from his neck.

Guido attempted to retrieve the scarf but instead received a “heavy blow to the head”, according to his son and was “left for dead.”

The Belgian publication reports Guido has been left fighting for his life.

The man's son Jurgen, who is the co-chairman of Blue Moon Belgium, said: "After the game, we stopped at the parking lot along the E40 in Drongen.

"While we were already driving on, my dad was still waiting outside for his two friends. There, a Club Brugge supporter approached him and pulled his scarf from around his neck.

"When my dad asked for his scarf back, he received a heavy blow to the head, after which the perpetrators fled and left my dad for dead."

The terrible incident followed a positive night for Manchester City on the pitch as they thrashed the Belgian team at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

Four separate players got on the scoresheet for the Citizens, with Joao Cancelo breaking the deadlock before Riyad Mahrez (2), Kyle Walker and Cole Palmer all found the back of the net.

Pep Guardiola said after the victory: "We were so good. It was one of the best performances we have had in Europe.

"I am not going to underestimate Brugge. I know them quite well. I spoke with Vincent Kompany and he gave me some info. He knows Brugge better than me.

"He said to be careful in the final third, they have a fast central defender, especially the left one.

"I think we made a really good performance in many aspects so they could not be who they are. I know perfectly well who they are.

"I looked over Brugge during the international break. I looked at many games. I know how good they did against PSG.

"It is a few weeks before they travel to Manchester, and I am pretty sure they are going to adjust. It will not be the same, that's for sure.

"They have pride, they will see the game, see what they can do better. We will have to prepare as best as possible to take all the points."
