Alexander Povetkin was the 2004 super heavy-weight gold medallist before he decided to turn professional. Previously holding the WBA world heavyweight title between 2011 and 2013.

The Russian heavyweight boxer had 36 wins, three loses and one draw with also 25 knockouts, quite impressive!

On his Instagram video he told fans:

“The years have taken their toll.”

“I have all kind of injuries that still need to be treated. The time has come for me to end my career.”

Povetkin was knocked out my Dillian Whyte in the rematch which happened in March after the Russian beat Dillian last August for the WBC interim heavyweight title.

This year Povetkins manager had been concerned about the boxer’s health and was trying to convince him to retire.

Congratulations on a successful career Alexander! We wish you all the best in the future.
