There was a lot of optimistic for the Ryder cup 2021 for both teams with the Europeans having a lot of experience and the Americans being hailed as one of the strongest American teams to play for the famous trophy.
Padraig Harrington led the Europe team which included Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and world number 1 Jon Rahm. On the other side Steve Stricker led one of the best American teams in recent memories with Dustin Johnson leading the way with 8 of the top 10 all in the American team.

It all started with a dominant display from the Americans in Friday Foursomes with a 3-1 lead and then backed that up with another 3-1 lead in the fourballs. Saturday came and the task looked hard but not impossible for the travelling Europeans but they knew Saturdays fourballs and foursomes would need to go there way too. This was not the case with them losing 3-1 again in the foursomes and drawing 2-2 in the fourballs.
Now their task was even harder. They would need a near perfect Sunday Singles. McIlroy came out the blocks flying with a win against Schauffele but then all going down hill with the next 6 games going to the Americans. At that point the Ryder cup was won and was staying in the USA. There was a little fightback from Ian Poulter and Tommy Westwood. The end score was 19-9 a record win for the dominant Americans.
The next Ryder cup is scheduled for 2023 in Rome where the Americans haven’t won an away series for 30 years. Could this team do it?
