The full-time whistle was met with boos from the home faithful, as a scrappy performance ended with another defeat, losing to Millwall thanks to a last-minute goal by Murray Wallace, causing more pressure to fall onto Markus Schopp’s shoulders, as the tykes also fell into the relegation zone for the first time this season.

Whilst both sides had problems with their chances, with Brad Collins keeping multiple shots out, Millwall were able to take their chance, something which Barnsley have not been successful in doing. Whilst the Tykes did have their chances to score, with Aaron Leya Iseka coming close early on, they once again had their problem of being unable to finish these chances, with them not having scored in the second half since the first match of the season, as well as having not scored in open play since august.

This result will not bring any joy to Markus Schopp, as Barnsley Winless run extending to nine games, with many fans taking to social media to voice their discontent with him. Schopp, who was appointed in June to replace Valerian Ismael, has only been able to oversee one win in all competitions in his 12 games in charge with many fans calling for his departure from the Oakwell dugout. Whilst Schopp’s tenure has certainly not been helped by the departures of key players such as Alex Mowatt and Michael Sollbauer, nor the injuries to Mads Juel Andersen and Carlton Morris, many fans have been hoping for better following Barnsley’s playoff campaign last season.
