It was a cold Tuesday night at the John Smith’s Stadium and Blackburn Rovers made the trip over to West Yorkshire.
After two defeats in a row for Huddersfield losing 2-0 to Nottingham Forest and 1-0 to Swansea a win was needed to raise the spirits of the team and the fans. However, Blackburn have been on good form with a 0-0 draw with Barnsley and then dominating Cardiff to beat them 5-1. Last season Huddersfield beat Blackburn 2-1 at home with Naby Sarr netting twice but in the return trip to Ewood Park Huddersfield were severely beaten 5-2.
With a 19.45pm kick off many made their way into the ground at around 7pm to watch the warmups and socialise with people. As the stadium began to fill so did the nerves and anxiety of the supporters of both teams as it is always a good game between the two sides.
Kick off got underway and Huddersfield started on the front foot and dominated the first 10 minutes of the game pushing up the pitch exposing Blackburn’s defence. The first chance of the game came in the 17th minute when Lewis O’Brien hit the left post with a left footed shot from the centre of the box which was assisted by Harry Toffolo.
Ben Diaz created the first chance for Blackburn in the 32nd minute when his right footed shot from the outside the box was close but it went to the right keeping the score line at 0-0.
Pickering was on the attack in the 34th minute as his left footed shot from the centre of the box went to the left after a very quick break.

But Huddersfield were quick to respond when Alex Vallejo but the terriers in front from a right footed shot outside the box to the bottom left corner. Assisted by Sorba Thomas.
Blackburn were back on the attack just one minute later but an attempt by Thyrhys Dolan was blocked. The right footed shot from the centre of the box was assisted by Ben Diaz.
Half time: Huddersfield Town 1 Blackburn Rovers 0
However, as the second half started it was Blackburn on the front foot pushing up the pitch and it was very clear they were chasing that equaliser.
The equaliser came in the 57th minute when Joe Rothwell played the ball into the box and Diaz played it into the six-yard box at put the ball passed Nicholls into the back of the net.
Danny Ward was quick to respond to the equaliser as he headed the second goal home to make the score line 2-1 to the home side in the 60th minute. The header from the centre of the box to the top right corner was assisted once again by Sorba Thomas.
But Huddersfield’s glory was snatched away when a penalty was given when Diaz drew a foul in the penalty area in which Naby Sarr was penalised with a yellow card. Diaz was able to capitalise the chance and make the score line 2-2 with his shot going in the bottom right corner.
The rest of the game was very end to end but in the 84th minute it was Huddersfield that got the winning goal with Danny Ward once again giving the terriers the lead with a header from close range with the assist coming from Toffolo.
The final whistle blew Huddersfield Town 3 Blackburn 2.
