Three years of El Loco at Leeds

It's been three years since Bielsa has taken over at Leeds and his achievements with the club are immense


Three years ago Marcelo Bielsa took over of Leeds united a struggling mid table championship team with only memory’s of being in the premier league, Bielsa is known for his revolutionary coaching style as well as his fiery temper.


The former Argentina boss was not expected to take the job but he did and in the past three years he’s completely transformed the Leeds side from mid table in the championship to mid table in the premier league.


During Bielsa’s first season in charge Leeds united dominated the league but fell short at the end of the season and finished 3rd. Instead due to the way that Leeds dropped in form at the end of the season a term used while he was in charge at athletic Bilbao begun to get thrown about “Bielsa burnout” they then lost to derby in the play offs.

Many people thought Bielsa would leave after failing to gain promotion, many thought that he would leave but he didn’t, he signed on for another year. Leeds continued there dominant run although they had lost some key men such as Kemar Roofe and Pontus Jansson, they recruited new talent in Helder Costa and Eddie Nketiah, Ben White and Illian Meslier all on loan Leeds where dominant again and even with corona virus as an obstacle managed to get promoted and win the league.

In Bielsa’s first season in the premier league Leeds surprised people by continuing to play there high risk high reward football, they finished ninth and only just missed out on European football .

Bielsa has transformed Leeds in the last three years making them a premier league powerhouse looking for greater things, and it looks like he’s set to stay.
