Looking for activities to do turning Halloween time Is hard, England doesn’t take Halloween very seriously, not like in America, but if you read on, you’ll realise there is quite a lot to do. Most of these activities hardly cost any expense and there full for all ages, these activities can be done at home or local there’s always something that is a bus or train ride away if you cannot drive yet.
Pumpkin Picking
In my opinion, pumpkins make the ultimate decoration for Halloween. No matter where you live there’s always a pumpkin patch nearby. My favourite patch is Tickhill in Doncaster, the field is massive and full of loads of pumpkins for everyone to get, its like they never run out! They provide a wheelbarrow to put your pumpkins in whilst you walk around and there loads of different kinds of shapes, if you’re looking for baby ones, big ones, long ones, and even white ones! While on your visit there’s also a cute little café at the top where you can get hot food, cold food, and a nice hot chocolate to keep you warm. If you’re looking for a fun day out, defiantly put this first on your list.
Halloween Movie Night
There’s always time for a cosy night in… looking for fun things to do during Halloween isn’t always about spending money, grab your blanket and get on that sofa! There is plenty of movies on Netflix, Disney plus, and amazon prime to watch that is Halloween themed. Even if you’re not into horror movies the kids Halloween films are just as good, such as hocus pocus and a nightmare before Christmas, these are both classic kids Halloween films. To add to this, you can always start the Halloween film franchise and watch 1 a week up until Halloween but be careful because Michael Mires is watching you….. but before you do any of this make sure you light a cinnamon scented candle and grab a blanket and a mug of hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows and your sorted for the night.
Scare Fest
If you want to be scared, this is the place to go. Only a train away in Wakefield is scare fest, on Hell Lane (how convenient) every year from the start of October to early November they hold a scare fest, it is filled with creepy costumes, scary mazes, haunted houses and more. The event voted as one of the top 10 scare attractions in the UK. Tickets are £23 and it runs from 6pm-11pm, so depending on what time you are wanting to go either early or late you have a choice, some people say they will never go back because it is that scary. However, if you and your friends are looking for a good scare, this is the place to go.
Pumpkin Carving
Gab your knife and get carving. Personally, this is my favourite thing to do for Halloween, I love being creative and me and my sister have a competition to see who can carve the best pumpkin. I like to see what I can carve out, my best ones are ‘Oogie boogie’ from a nightmare before Christmas and Winifired from Hocus pocus, this year I am thinking about doing Ghostface from the classic 1996 horror movie Scream. Pumpkin carving is always messy but its such a fun activity to do with everyone, there is also a few things you can do with the pumpkin guts after such as making roasted pumpkin seeds, making soup, pumpkin hummus, juice it, and many more.
Making Halloween Themed Sweet Treats
Everyone has a sweet tooth; it just depends on what for. There are plenty of sweet treats you and your friends/ family can make, you can decorate cookies with icing and make scary faces, ghost faces and pumpkin faces. Here are 2 simple sweet treats to make for this Halloween.
Halloween Themed Marshmallow Squares.
To make these bring butter and marshmallow to a boil in a pot, once fully melted grab 2 separate bowls of rice crispies and spilt the mixture between them both. Then add green food colouring to one bowl and black to another, take some baking paper and a square tray and pour one colour into one side and squash it down and then do the same to the other side. Leave in the fridge until set and then take out the tray and there ready to eat!
