Supporting Sheffield Wednesday is an absolute rollercoaster ride, after no wins in 4 against sides that you’d expect them to beat no one expected them to topple a side that had won 5 in a row and sat pretty at the top of the table, but the owls put in an assured performance and came away with all three points in a pulsating game at the DW Stadium. The owls took the lead in extremely fortunate style as Wigan midfielder Max Power’s headed back pass ended up in the net for a calamitous own goal. The goal seemed to wake up Wigan as they immediately forced Bailey Peacock-Farrell to pull off an outstanding save to deny Will Keane from point blank range.

Wednesday started the second half like a house on fire which culminated in Callum Paterson doubling Wednesday’s lead with a smashing half volley after brilliant work from Lee Gregory, but Sheffield Wednesday made hard work of it like usual when Marvin Johnson upended Callum Lang in the box and Charlie Wyke converted the spot kick to set up a customary nervy finish but Wednesday held on to secure a vital win. the change of system going from a 433 to a 4231 with Paterson in behind Gregory seemed to give the side more of an attacking threat.
